There are many people in Sweden who want to get involved and help newly arriving refugees, but it can be difficult to know how to proceed and often takes time to figure out. The new web app Welcome intends to make it easier for refugees and locals to get in touch with one another.
The app has a questionnaire that asylum seekers can use to ask questions for local people to answer. The questions may be about everything, from how to open a bank account to how to apply for a job in Sweden is also be a section with official governmental information and a page where users can post information about events and activities and invite newcomers to attend.
We want to make it easier for people to get involved. The asylum centres are often located in quite isolated areas and the newcomers have an important need for social contact with Swedes. -Tobias Rosman, Emma Rosman, Welcome
Ohlsonsmith designed the logotype for Welcome. Our idea was to communicate in a very direct way – and create a logotype that is contemporary but also reminiscent of hand-painted road signs and big newspaper headlines, with an aesthetic that is personal and feels like it originates from a single individual rather than a governmental agency.
The Welcome app has 10,000 users to date and more are joining every day.
Ohlsonsmith works with Welcome on a pro bono basis.
